Activities in Bohol: 13 Things to Do & Places to Visit

Written by Felicia|Updated: 2025-04-21

What’s the best things to do in Bohol? Bohol is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines, located in the Visayas Islands. It is a paradise for the whole family to travel and vacation together. Not only can you enjoy the relaxation of the beach and island, but you can also explore on land, and the price is cheap.

Bohol is fun for all ages! Snorkeling is the star of the show, where you can spot sea turtles, colorful corals, and tropical fish. On land, a cruise along the Loboc River leading to the iconic Chocolate Hills is a must.

There are also plenty of fun encounters with tarsiers, butterflies, and even glowing fireflies. Feeling adventurous? Try cliff-jumping at a waterfall. Or, if your idea of a perfect day is building sandcastles with the kids, Panglao Island has four beautiful beaches waiting for you.

Follow Asia Odyssey Travel to explore the exciting and surprising attractions in Bohol. We provide a 2-3 day itinerary for Bohol for your reference.

#1. Alona Beach: White Sand, Resort & Nightlife

Alona Beach is where most visitors first touch down. It's just a 10-minute drive from Panglao Airport, super easy to reach.

Bohol Alona Beach

It’s always buzzing. It's the heart of Panglao's action, packed with restaurants, bars, dive shops, and tour operators. If you're into water adventures, you're in luck. Jet skis, parasailing, banana boats, and island-hopping tours all kick off here.

As the sun sets, the beachfront comes alive with music, cocktails, and sea breezes. For a quieter stay, consider booking a hillside hotel.

#2. Enjoy a Loboc River Cruise with Food & Music

This is a staple on all Bohol countryside tours. The cruise lasts about 1 hour and includes a buffet lunch featuring Filipino dishes, all for around 1,000 PHP.

Loboc River, often called "Amazon of the East," winds through lush coconut groves and traditional villages. Gliding along the calm waters while enjoying a meal and live music is the definition of laid-back travel.

Midway through the journey, the ship stops at riverside village for a cultural performance. Local villagers in colorful attire singing and dancing, giving you a taste of authentic Boholano heritage.

#3. Meet the Tarsier, the World's Smallest Primates

After your Loboc River adventure, it’s a short 20-minute drive to the Bohol Tarsier Conservation Area. You’ll meet the tiniest primates on the planet here.

Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary, Bohol

Tarsiers are about the size of a fist, with long, bony fingers gripping tree branches and a tail that’s twice their body length. But their real standout feature? Their gigantic, almost alien-like eyes that take up two-thirds of their face.

Some people find them adorable, while others think they look straight out of a sci-fi movie. Either way, they’re unique to the Philippines, so don’t miss the chance to see them up close.

#4. Chocolate Hills: Bohol’s Must-See Natural Wonder

And here we are, the legendary Chocolate Hills! These quirky, cone-shaped mounds turn brown during the dry season (March to May), giving them their delicious-sounding name. The rest of the year, they’re covered in green grass, but here’s the weird part, nothing else grows on them. Just grass, no trees.

The best spot to take it all in? Chocolate Hills Viewpoint. It’s a mushroom-shaped hill with a viewing deck on top. Climb the stairs, and you’ll be rewarded with a jaw-dropping 360-degree panorama of these hills stretching as far as the eye can see.

Things to Do in the Chocolate Hills Area

ATV Adventure: Feeling adventurous? Rent an ATV and cruise around the hills—mud, dust, and all. It’s about 1,000 PHP per hour, and a guide will lead you through the rugged trails. Heads up: You will get dirty, so maybe bring a change of clothes.

Chocolate Hills Adventure Park (CHAP): Right near the viewpoint, CHAP isn’t just about pretty scenery. It’s packed with adrenaline-pumping activities. Try the Bike Zipline (yes, you pedal across a cable), the Wave Runner Surf Zipline, or tackle the Tree Top Rope Course.

#5. Balicasag Island: Snorkeling and Diving Paradise

A 45-minute boat ride from Alona Beach takes you to Balicasag Island, a dream destination for anyone who loves the ocean. If you set out early enough, you might even spot dolphins playfully leaping alongside your boat. Seriously, it’s magical.

The island is famous for the Balicasag Wall, a massive underwater cliff teeming with marine life. Imagine black coral gardens, rose-shaped reefs, and crystal-clear waters.

Dive a little deeper, and you might swim alongside sea turtles, jackfish tornadoes, barracudas, and even the occasional clownfish hanging out in their anemone homes.

What to Do on Balicasag Island

Snorkeling: No diving license? No problem. The shallow reefs are bursting with colorful fish and coral, making snorkeling a super rewarding (and budget-friendly) option. The water is so clear, you’ll feel like you’re floating through an aquarium.

Scuba Diving: If you’re a certified diver, this is a must. The dramatic drop-offs and marine biodiversity make every dive unforgettable. The underwater world here isn’t just beautiful—it’s next-level stunning.

#6. Napaling Reef: Dive into the Sardine Run

If watching thousands of shimmering sardines swirl around you sounds like a dream, Napaling Reef is the place you should go. It’s just 10 km (a 20-minute drive) from Alona Beach. How it works?

Go early (between 7 AM - 10 AM) for the calmest waters and the clearest views. Swim just 10-20 meters from the shore, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by the dazzling Sardine Run, just 3-4 meters below the surface.

Each dive lasts about 45 minutes, and besides sardines, keep an eye out for sea turtles, reef fish, and vibrant corals. It’s a freediver’s paradise, thanks to the dramatic underwater drop-off and crystal-clear waters.

#7. Baclayon Church: Step Back into Bohol’s History

On your way to the Chocolate Hills, make a quick stop at Baclayon Church. Here’s a fun fact: The church was built in 1569, using coral stones mixed with egg whites as a binding agent, reportedly over a million eggs.

From the outside, the 400-year-old facade looks a bit weathered (understandably), but step inside, and you’re in for a treat. The stained-glass windows scatter rainbow-hued light across the altar, creating a magical glow, feels like something straight out of Europe.

For history buffs, there’s a small museum on the second floor showcasing religious relics and old artifacts. It’s a paid entry.

#8. Bohol Bee Farm: Organic Eats & Unique Ice Cream

Bohol Bee Farm is more than just a farm; it’s a cliffside restaurant with epic ocean views. Most of the ingredients come straight from their on-site garden, giving the dishes a fresh, organic twist.

Even if you’re not staying for a full meal, their homemade ice cream is a must-try, people rave about the unique flavors. You can also browse their handmade crafts and organic products for a sweet souvenir.

If you come for the food, here is what suggested:

  • Organic Salad Basket (PHP 250-350) – Fresh greens with edible flowers & honey dressing.
  • Pasta with Pesto & Flower Petals (PHP 300-400) – A fragrant, vegetarian-friendly dish.
  • Herb-Roasted Chicken (PHP 350-450) – Juicy and flavorful.
  • Squash Flower Pizza (PHP 350-450) – A unique veggie delight.

#9. Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) on Loboc River

Want a more active way to experience the Roboc River? Try Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP)!

  • Daytime SUP to a waterfall (3-4 hours): Paddle through the jungle and reach a hidden cascade. 1,800 PHP per person.
  • Nighttime SUP for fireflies (2-3 hours): Drift under a sky full of twinkling stars and watch fireflies light up the trees. It’s surreal. 1,000 PHP per person.

SUP itself isn’t difficult, even if you’re a beginner. Your guide will take some time to teach you the basics. After that, you’ll be free to glide along and explore this peaceful river at your own pace. However, be mindful of passing boats, as they might create waves along the way.

Pro tip: Avoid midday paddling; the sun is brutal.

#10. Falls & Water Adventure: Cool Off in Bohol’s Hidden Waterfalls

Nothing beats cooling off in a refreshing waterfall on a hot day! Bohol has plenty of waterfalls to explore, but Pahangog Twin Falls and Ingkumhan Falls are crowd favorites.

Pahangog Twin Falls: This double waterfall is all about crystal-clear waters and good vibes. Swim under the falls for an epic natural shower or try the vine swing and rock jumping. It’s basic but super fun.

Ingkumhan Falls: There are three cliff jumps: 3m, 7m, and a wild 12m jump from a tree branch. For a more chill experience, there’s even a natural jacuzzi hidden above the main falls. Just climb up, and you’ll love it.

#11. Pamilacan Island: Local Life, Less Crowed with Sands

Looking for a peaceful island escape? Pamilacan Island is your spot—clear waters, vibrant coral gardens, and fewer crowds compared to Balicasag. Snorkeling is unlimited, and you can explore famous spots like:

  • Coral Garden – A kaleidoscope of marine life.
  • Jack Fish Point – For schools of jackfish and other pelagics.
  • Turtle Point – You guessed it—sea turtles galore!

It’s also a prime location for whale and dolphin watching, especially in the early mornings (fingers crossed for some dolphin magic!).

It’s not super commercialized, so expect fewer tourists, fewer shops, and a more laid-back vibe.

#12. Siquijor Island: Cliff Jumps, Waterfalls & Mystical Vibes

Just two hours by ferry from Tagbilaran Pier, Siquijor Island is a compact paradise packed with adventure. The whole island can be circled in about 2 hours by motorbike, but with so much to see and do, you could easily spend a full day (or more) soaking in the magic.

Things to Do in Siquijor Island

A: Pitogo Cliff – Cliff-jumping straight into the sea—need we say more?

B: Old Enchanted Balete Tree – A 400-year-old tree with a natural fish spa.

C: Lazi Convent & Church – One of the oldest and largest convents in Asia, exuding old-world charm.

D: Cambugahay Falls – THE place for vine swings and waterfall dips. This one’s a crowd favorite—don’t miss it!

E: Salagdoong Beach – For the brave: a 10m diving platform into the ocean.

F: Uela’s Three Mangrove Trees – A surreal spot where three massive mangroves rise from the sea.

G: Siquijor Pier – Your gateway to this mystical island and a great place for sunset views.

#13. Camiguin Island: Volcanic Adventures

If you’re craving an off-the-beaten-path adventure, Camiguin Island is calling. This tiny island, shaped by volcanic activity, is a mix of jungles, hot springs, and beaches—with hardly any crowds in sight.

The best way to explore? Rent a motorbike and cruise the island in 2-3 hours—but take your time, there’s a lot to discover.

What Makes Camiguin Special

Volcanic Landscapes – Dive into the Sunken Cemetery, a hauntingly beautiful underwater site created by a volcanic eruption.

Epic Diving – With 10+ dive spots around the island, you’ll find incredible coral gardens, dramatic drop-offs, and underwater hot springs. Don’t miss: Mantigue Island and White Island.

Getting there: Take a 4-hour ferry from Jagna Port (Bohol) to Balbagon Port (Camiguin). There’s one trip daily, 9:30 AM from Camiguin to Bohol, and 2:30 PM back.
