Xi'an has three main train stations, while Pingyao has two. But for your Pingyao to Xi'an journey, you only need to focus on two: Pingyaonan Railway Station and Xianbei Railway Station. These are the only stations used for high-speed trains between these two cities.

Departure Station: Pingyaogucheng Railway Station (平遥古城站)

Seven high-speed trains a day leave from Pingyaogucheng for Xi'anbei. This station is a major stop on the super-fast train line between Datong and Xi'an. It's located on Wenjing Avenue in Pingyao County, Jinzhong City, just 6-7 kilometers from the famous Pingyao Ancient City. To get there from attraction, catch bus 108 North or South from the Ancient City's North or South Gate. The ride takes around an hour.

Arrival Station: Xianbei Railway Station (西安北站)

Located at the crossroads of Yuanshuo and Yuanguang Roads in Xi'an's Weiyang District, this station is a major high-speed rail hub in Northwest China.

• Pingyao to Xian Terraotta Warriors Museum: It's a 53-kilometer Take Metro Line 2 towards Changning Palace, switch to Metro Line 1 towards Qinling West at Fangzhicheng Station. Get off at Huaqingchi Station, Exit C, then hop on Bus 613 to reach your destination. The whole journey should take about 2 hours.
• Pingyao to Xian Ancient City Wall: It is approximately 15 kilometers Take Metro Line 2 towards Changning Palace and get off at Yongningmen Station. Exit from Exit A1 Northwest. The entire journey will take about 34 minutes.
• Pingyao to Xian Muslim Quarter: To get there, take Metro Line 2 towards Changning Palace for about 36 minutes. Exit at Bell Tower Station and use the west exit (B exit). The total distance is approximately 13 kilometers.
• Pingyao to Xian Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and Da Ci'en Temple: It's a 24-kilometer Hop on Metro Line 4 going towards Aerospace New City and get off at Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. Take the southeast C exit. The whole trip takes about an hour and twelve minutes.
• Pingyao to Xian Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City: It is 23 kilometers away. You can take Metro Line 2 towards Changning Palace and transfer to Metro Line 4 towards Aerospace New City at Administration Center. Get off at Datang Furongyuan Station and exit from Exit A Northwest. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 9 minutes.
• Pingyao to Xian Shaanxi History Museum: It is 18 kilometers away. Take Metro Line 2 in Xi'an in the direction of Changning Palace and get off at Xiaozhai Station. Exit from the northeast exit E.

If you're going from Xi'an to Pingyao, you'll start your journey at Xi'anbei Railway Station and finish at Pingyaogucheng Railway Station. There are 9 trains a day, with the first one leaving at 7:43 in the morning and the last one at 5:23 in the evening. To get there, take Metro Line 4 and get off at Exit B. It's just a 10-minute walk from there. Xi'anbei Station is huge, so give yourself about an hour to find your train and the right gate.

Tourists typically plan a 5-day Pingyao Xian tour. After spending 2 days exploring the highlights of Pingyao, they take the high-speed train from Pingyao to Xi'an to begin their journey in Xi'an.

The best thing about Pingyao is its ancient city. You could easily spend a whole day wandering around these old Ming and Qing Dynasty streets. Check out the Rishengchang Former Bank, China's first bank. It's like the ancient version of Wall Street! Learn about the dangers of transporting goods in the old days at the Escort Agency Museum. Stroll down Ming and Qing Dynasty streets, the busiest street in the ancient city, and grab a bite to eat. Explore the City God Temple with its amazing wood carvings, paintings, and sculptures. And don't forget to climb the city wall for some incredible views. You can even catch a beautiful sunset from up there.
