Overnight Train | Hard Seat | Hard Sleeper | Soft Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
K - Train | 50.5 RMB | 96.5 RMB | 146.5 RMB |
Hard Seats: These seats have a compact layout with relatively firm cushions and backrests. There are three seats on each side with a central aisle. Each row typically consists of two sets of three seats facing each other. Seats cannot be reclined, which can lead to discomfort on long journeys. The carriage is noisy and lacks soundproofing, especially during peak hours when the aisles become crowded. Toilets and hot water are available. Luggage can be stored on overhead racks, but larger items are usually placed under the seats due to limited space.
Hard sleeper:
- Bed layout: Each compartment has 6 berths, divided into upper, middle, and lower bunks, with two on each level. Compartments do not have doors, offering less privacy.
- Amenities: Mattresses, pillows, and blankets are provided. There are power outlets underneath the seats in the aisle every few seats. The end of the carriage has washbasins and toilets.
- Luggage: It can be stored on the overhead racks or under the berths.
Soft Sleeper: Each compartment typically has 4 berths and a private door, offering good privacy and quiet. Amenities include disposable items such as slippers, tissue, electric kettle, charging sockets, and light switches. Luggage can be stored under the lower berth or in the empty space between the upper berths.
Which ticket should I choose?
For overnight journeys, I strongly recommend purchasing a Hard Sleeper or Soft Sleeper ticket. Hard Sleeper provides basic needs and is more affordable, while Soft Sleeper offers more privacy.

How to Plan Your Mount Wutai Tour with Asia Odyssey Travel
Usually, travelers will arrange about 1-2 days to visit Wutaishan (五台山). If you are fond of hiking, you may need 3 days to hike up and down.
Suggested Length of Stay | What to See |
---|---|
2-3 Days | Tayuan Temple, Shuxiang Temple, Xiantong Temple, Pusa Ding Temple, Dailuo Ding Temple , etc. |
For a 2 days Wutaishan itinerary, you can start from the Buddhist culture. Upon arrival at Tayuan Temple (塔院寺), the most striking feature is the towering 54.56-meter White Pagoda, a landmark of both Wutaishan and northern China. This pagoda is not only a pilgrimage site for Buddhist devotees but also a favorite spot for photographers. Next, visit Shuxiang Temple (殊像寺), home to a nearly 10-meter-tall statue of Manjushri Bodhisattva, a place once visited by ancient emperors and empresses. Then, head to Xiantong Temple (显通寺), one of the largest and oldest temples in Wutaishan, housing the unique "Youming Clock" and a copper hall. After exploring these temples, visit Pusa Ding Temple (菩萨顶), the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Wutaishan. Legend has it that Manjushri Bodhisattva once resided here, and Ming and Qing emperors also stayed here.
On the second day, wake up to the sounds of temple bells and head to Dailuo Ding Temple (黛螺顶). From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of yesterday's journey and admire the temple's five statues of Manjushri Bodhisattva. You can either climb 1080 steps or take a cable car to reach the top.
Shanxi Province, where Mount Wutai is located, is famous for its ancient architecture. While the mountain's scenery is indeed beautiful, exploring other attractions can broaden your horizons. Many tourists from Beijing allocate eight days to visit Datong, Mount Wutai, and Pingyao during their trip to Shanxi.
Recommended 9 Days Beijing Datong Wutaishan Pingyao Tour:
Day by Day | Duration | Attractions |
---|---|---|
Beijing | 3 Days | Tian’anmen Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Mutianyu Great Wall, Bird’s Nest & Water Cube |
Datong | 2 Days | Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Wall, Hanging Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda |
Wutaishan | 2 Day | Tayuan Temple, Shuxiang Temple, Xiantong Temple, Pusa Ding Temple |
Pingyao | 2 Day | Pingyao Ancient City, Shuanglin Temple, Zhangbi Ancient Castle, Wang's Family Compound |
Upon arriving in Beijing, you don't have to rush to Wutaishan. You can spend some time visiting iconic landmarks like Tian'anmen Square (天安门) and the Mutianyu Great Wall (慕田峪长城).
Insert Datong between Beijing and Wutaishan. In Datong, explore the exquisite Buddhist Yungang Grottoes (云冈石窟) carved by royal order in the 5th century, admire the glazed wall from the 17th century, and ascend the Hanging Temple (悬空寺), a monastery built on a cliff. After visiting Wutaishan, head to Pingyao. Wander through the Pingyao Ancient City (平遥古城) and experience the daily life of ancient civilians. Most of the Ming and Qing Dynasty layouts have been preserved. You can also visit Shuanglin Temple (双林寺) to see the colorful sculptures. Additionally, explore Zhangbi Ancient Castle (张壁古堡) with its underground tunnels built for wartime refuge, and the Wang Family Compound (王家大院), Shanxi's folk palace.
