On this day, we will take you from Lijiang to Lugu Lake, covering a distance of about 206 km, which will take around 4 hours by car. During the journey, you will be treated to picturesque views of the Jinsha River (Yangtze River). And you will see many villages of the Yi ethnic group in the steep mountains.
Lugu Lake (泸沽湖), situated at an altitude of approximately 2,690 meters (8,825 feet), rests amidst the majestic mountains on the border of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in China. This enchanting destination beckons travelers in search of a distinctive cultural immersion and awe-inspiring natural beauty. Often referred to as the "Kingdom of Women" due to its matriarchal society, Lugu Lake offers a fascinating exploration of Mosuo culture, characterized by their unique customs such as the practice of "walking marriage".
Upon arrival at the Lugu Lake viewpoint, be greeted by a breathtaking panoramic vista. This vast expanse of water marks the beginning of your journey into this mysterious land. After soaking in the view, your guide will assist you with hotel check-in and you can take a short rest.
This afternoon, enjoy a leisurely canoe trip on the tranquil Lugu Lake. Appreciate the mirror-like reflection of the surrounding mountains and feel the soft breeze whisper across the water. (Optional activity: If you'd like, you can opt for a boat trip to Liwubi Island, one of the three magical islands of Lugu Lake. Disembark at Liwubi Island and explore the historic Lama Monastery, belonging to the Yellow Sect.)
Later, enjoy some quiet time strolling along the shores of Lugu Lake to see beautiful view. As the sun dips below the horizon, witness the magnificent sunset spectacle from Luoshui Village.

In this early morning, witness the breathtaking sunrise (weather permitting) over Lugu Lake at Lige Village this morning. This peninsula juts out into the eastern part of the lake, offering panoramic vistas for an unforgettable experience. Take in the picture-postcard scenery of Lige Peninsula as you soak up the morning beauty.
After breakfast, head to Zhamei Lamaist Monastery. Nestled at the foot of Gulsan Mountain northwest of Yongning Town, this impressive structure dates back to the 35th year of the Jiajing reign (1556). It holds the distinction of being the largest Tibetan Buddhist Gelug sect monastery in the entire region inhabited by the Mosuo and Pumi ethnic groups of Yunnan. Yongning Town is an important town along the Ancient Tea-Horse Trade Caravan route from Yunnan to Tibet. Located between Yunnan and Sichuan, Yongning has preserved its original ethnic life, which remains untainted by tourism. You will have the opportunity to visit the Mosuo Market in Yongning Town.
In the afternoon, ascend Luyuanya Cliff to witness prayer stones and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. After lunch, explore the east side of Lugu Lake, including a relaxing cruise through the "Grass Sea" on a wooden boat. Enjoy some fun on the floating meadow before soaking in the sunset's hues at Goddess Bay.
In this evening, cap off the evening with the Mosuo Bonfire Party, where you can immerse yourself in ethnic dances and songs. Join the Mosuo boys and girls around a crackling bonfire in the open-air theater for an unforgettable night under the stars.
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely walk around the tranquil Lugu Lake. Then, delve into Mosuo culture with a visit to the Mosuo Culture Museum and learn about their unique customs.
After that, depart for Lijiang. On the way to Ninglang Town, stop by a Pumi ethnic village and visit a Pumi family. The Pumi people, originally a nomadic tribe from southern Gansu and eastern Qinghai, migrated south along the Hengduan Mountains seeking warmer climes. After the 13th century, they settled in Ninglang, Lijiang, Weixi, and Lanping counties.
