Where is Bhutan on the World Map
This tiny kingdom is tucked high up in the eastern Himalayas, between two absolute giants: India and China (Tibet). It's easy to miss on a world map—but don’t be fooled by its size. Bhutan might be small, but it packs in more magic per square kilometer than you’d believe.

One of the coolest things about Bhutan? It’s totally landlocked, meaning no beaches—but plenty of jaw-dropping mountains. From lush subtropical valleys in the south to snow-dusted peaks in the north, Bhutan’s wild terrain makes it feel like a world of its own.

Bhutan Location Map with Surrounding Countries
In this custom Bhutan Location Map, you’ll see Bhutan nestled right between India and China (Tibet Autonomous Region), surrounded by some of South Asia’s most fascinating neighbors:
- India – Bhutan’s biggest neighbor, wrapping around from the west and south, Most travelers enter Bhutan via India.
- China (Tibet) – Borders Bhutan to the north and east, but there are no open border crossings for travelers.
- Nepal – Just to the west of Bhutan (though they don’t share a direct border), it’s a common jumping-off point for flights between Kathmandu and Paro.
- Bangladesh – Southeast of Bhutan, connected indirectly via a narrow strip of Indian land.

This regional snapshot gives you a clearer picture of Bhutan’s position in the Himalayas—and why it’s remained so peaceful, pristine, and protected.
How to Get to Bhutan?
There are two main ways to enter Bhutan: by air or by land—and each offers its own kind of adventure.
By Air: Bhutan Airlines Route Map
This is the most popular and convenient way to enter Bhutan for international travelers.
Paro Airport is the only international airport in Bhutan. Flights arrive from Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Singapore, and a few other cities.

Airlines: Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines. Both offer a smooth ride—and unbeatable views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest on clear days!

By Land: Overland Entry Points
Land borders are mainly open for Indian travelers or those touring overland from India. There are three official entry points:
- Phuentsholing (near Jaigaon, West Bengal) – most commonly used
- Samdrup Jongkhar (connects to Assam) – ideal for eastern Bhutan tours
- Gelephu (connects to Assam and West Bengal) – less used, but scenic
While land entry is less common for foreign tourists, we can help to arrange private car transfers, cross-border pickups, and full overland itineraries on request!
Do You Need a Visa to Enter Bhutan?
Yes—all foreign tourists (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian citizens) need a Bhutan visa, which must be applied for in advance through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator (like us!).
No worries—we handle all the permits, visa paperwork, and tour logistics so you don’t have to lift a finger.
