Lanzhou to Jiayuguan: Train, Flight or Car from Lanzhou to Zhangye

Written by Lydia|Updated: 2024-11-07

Jiayuguan (嘉峪关) is approximately 730 kilometers away from Lanzhou (兰州). How to travel from Lanzhou to Jiayuguan? There are 3 main ways to get to Jiayuguan from Lanzhou: by car, high-speed train, or airplane.

Driving is the most recommended method. Without stops, it takes about 7-8 hours to travel from Lanzhou to Jiayuguan. However, we suggest stopping in Zhangye along the way to explore the Dafo Temple and the Zhangye Danxia Geopark.

Alternatively, you can take a high-speed train from Lanzhou to Jiayuguan, which takes around 4-5 hours. There are also flights available, with a flight time of about 1.5-2 hours, but the Lanzhou airport is located 70 kilometers from the city center, adding an extra hour to your journey.

These two methods will cause you to miss Zhangye (张掖), one of the four counties established by Emperor Liuche (汉武帝) during the Han Dynasty in the Hexi Corridor (河西走廊), so they are not highly recommended.

Read the following Lanzhou to Jiayuguan transportation guide for more details about the distance between Lanzhou and Jiayuguan, the pros and cons of each mode of transportation, and how to plan your journey more effectively.
